Teach Soap

hi I'm new here and I haven't made CP yet but i REALLY want to i was wondering how old you are when you started? I am kinda young(14) but i have read Everything soap making, watched the soapqueen cp beginners series and read up ALOT on the web.DO you all think I'm too young hope not !!

P.S do you suggest any good books/resourses for me

I think it's wonderful that you want to make CP soap and don't think you're too young at all! I didn't start until I was semi-retired. The Everything Soapmaking book is my "go to" book when I have a question and the Soap Queen videos are terrific for learning. I think you are off to a great start. Do you have your parent's permission? You will most likely need them when ordering lye and they may want to learn along with you so they can supervise.

As far as good books, The Everything Soapmaking Book by Alicia Grosso is easy to understand.
Your local library might have it.

Let's just say I'm old enough to be your mother but not your grandmother yet. I think it's wonderful that you want to make soap. It sounds like your doing your homework about it and approaching the idea very responsibly. Good for you! I'd suggest you keep mom or dad nearby your first couple of times just to give you an extra hand if you need it. Even with the best laid out plans things can happen while your soaping and an extra set of hands is nice. Just the other night I spilled my fragrance oil on the counter and had MY mom helping me clean it up while I poured the soap because the batter was moving fast on me and I couldn't stop to clean. I'd say no friends in the kitchen either because you need to concentrate. Good Luck honey, keep reading and you'll do great.

I am old enough to be your grandmother. While i was in my teens, I made soap under my mother's supervision. I would suggest that you do the same for cold process soap til you get the hang of it, or work with an MP base. MP soap is already saponified and you wouldn't have to worry about lye.

genny i do have my pearents permission also i have gotten my lye (with a few other goodies from BB) and for christmas i got a kit with pre measured oils some FO and oats all in a nice slab mold! I just can't wait to try with my mom who still thinks its cold 'pressed' soap!!!
and thanks all you for your helpful info and trust me y'all will probably see alot more of me once I start and probably mess up alot
