I'm interested in purchasing alkanet root to be used in my soaps. I was wondering where do you get yours from? Suppliers? Is it possible to purchase this at a general store?

Some local health food stores carry it.
But if you can't find it there, are you looking for the root or powder?
From Nature With Love & Mountain Rose Herbs carry the powder, I think MRH also has the root.

I haven't used it yet but Steve from SMR says it makes a pinkish red to bluish purple depending on how much you use. I have also heard its better to infuse the oil if you don't want a speckled look to your soaps.

I bought my alkanet root powder from BB. It does speckle quite a bit if you don't infuse it so that's what I do. You can creat some interesting looks with the speckles though. Mine never came out pinkish. If you don't use much it's gray and runs to purple when you use more.

Black Raspberry Vanilla - the darker color is from alkanet root powder infused olive oil.

awesome! I'm going to try it. Now, this might seems a dumb question...could the alkanet powder being infused with oil, or is it the root?
