Teach Soap

I'm going to try a new slightly tweaked version of my regular recipe that I've been loving this weekend. I thought I might try to use Coconut Milk for some or even all of the water in my recipe. I'm feeling adventurous. If you have used this before, is there anything different that I should expect. I have used GM powder, mixed into my oils, but have never tried a milk/lye solution. I was thinking I should freeze the coconut milk first and slowly dissolve the lye into into it. Should I use all milk or is that too much? 1/2 milk, 1/2 water for a first attempt? Do I need to strain it into the oils? Any input would be great.

I have recently used coconut milk in my formula. I used it to replaced my liquid. I first freezes the coconut milk and slowly dissolved my lye so it doesn't burn or overheat too much. I find it to work better for me. I really like using coconut milk because it gives a creamy and silky lather. I also suggest using high concentrated coconut milk with 60-70%, they normally come in a carton which can be found at most Asian markets. The downfall of using this high of concentration it stays fresh for 2-3 days. BOO!

I also freeze the coconut milk until slushy and add the lye to it. I use it in place of all my water. It makes such a a lovely soap and the lather feels so nice.

I am so excited to try this. I was going to wait til Saturday night but I might have to tuck the boys in early and go for it tonight. I have to say, I have tried the GM powder in about six batches now and I don't really notice too much difference in bubbles or creaminess over my recipe without it. I know others who absolutely love it and swear by it's goodness, but I don't know. Maybe because the powder is not the same as fresh goat's milk? I used the full fat kind and it's nice but I don't don't know if it's worth it to me yet. Looking forward to having the coconut milk soap to compare with it. From what I hear it is a really nice addition too. Thanks all.

I've used both fresh and powdered goat milk and I don't notice a difference between them in the finished soap. The only place I can tell there's more bubbles is in my Castile soap.
