Teach Soap

thank you jrose729! Of course I learned a lesson today. Before I could cut it, I noticed that there were brown "rust" looking spots on the top of the soap loaf in certain parts. So of course I got help from fellow forum members, the problem could be lye/possible zapping, or because of the sugar pearls that I put on top. I am going to say that it was the sugar pearls, because it was only spotty, and not continuous. Anyway, now I know not to use sugar pearls on top of my soap! Not only that, I hadn't thought about the pearls trying to go down the drain. It's a shame too, because I like the color of the soap and the MP on top, and although I am not a fan of Absinthe, (not in the least!) I must admit that it smells nice and spicy! Here are the cut pics. I will be trying this loaf again in a few weeks time! Oh, btw, how can I make the MP stay looking shiny?

Thanks Soapbuddy! As you can see by the 1st pic, the green was lighter, and I was hoping that it would stay that color, but I am starting to see that the colors darken as the soap goes through it's stages. Since this is my 2nd batch using colors, I am keeping distinct and detailed notes about everything!

noni that's a beautiful green. I had the same thing happen to my soaps that were topped with the sugar pearls. The loose pearls just fall off when I use the bar but they disintegrate very quickly and don't clog the drain or anything. The ones that were pushed in a bit just melt away during use. I stopped using them after a few batches because I thought the "rust" would turn my testers off a bit especially since I'm a newbie. Thought it might scare them a bit. I do think they look pretty on top though and it gives me an excuse to hoard the bars I already made with them

so true WildChick! It looks like rust and although i like the way they look and I wasn't sure about the meltability factor of the sugar pearls, I think I would rather find another topping! I wish that the soaps would stay looking the same when you pour they when they are complete! The 1st pic the soap looks nice and shiny and creamy, like a beautiful pistachio pudding with no flaws! lol

Everyone has been busy, and turning on the creative juices to "11" ( spinal tap). Well done fellow soapers.
This soap was made using the column mold, scented with a blend of anise and lavender, naturally coloured with brazilian purple clay, activated charcoal and kaolin clay. The soaps all came from the same mold/pour. I like how each piece is different.

Thanks for all the positive feedback soapy friends. Jenny (jrose), after watching your video using the column mold, is what inspired me to give it a whirl. I like the mold, but I need to have the batter thinner to create more define swirls.

Those look fabulous! They look like all different batches. How cool!
