I don't seem to be able to tolerate the citric acid in bath bombs. Is this a common problem or am I doing something wrong?

It's possible. I can't use lotions that have citric acid in them to adjust the pH.

Thanks Soapbuddy. Can you use any bath bombs yourself? Are mine still safe for others to use? I was hoping to make some for Valentines Day.

After I used a small bath bomb I felt like i was lying on sandpaper because my back was so itchy. My family tried the same batch with no reaction. Apparently the bath water does not dilute it enough for me. I do have very sensitive skin so I am not a good test candidate. If I don't react, It is probably safe for anyone, but if I do react it could just be me.

I do react to essential oils sometimes but this was a smaller amount of EO than I would use in soap. I did try just baking soda in the water with no problem. Just a spoon of citric acid did provoke a reaction. My next step is to add just the EO to bath water to confirm that I don't have a problem with that. I am unsure about giving these out if I am the only one with a problem.

I used baking soda, citric acid, witch hazel, fd&c red, and cinnamon EO.

What would be a better way to add fragrance? FO?

I'm not sure how to attach previous comments from this thread. I guess my question(s) are: do you usually add fragrance oil or essential oil, do you add it as is to the bath bomb.? I added essential oil as is. (undiluted)
