Hi all--I need to make some soap that can be used by February 22. I need some suggestions of what would be the best receipe to use to have a decently hard bar by then or will it even be possible? Should I leave the shea out & just use palm, coconut & olive oils? Advice please!!!! Why do I always get in a pickle like this anyway!! :o

February 22nd is cutting it really close do you know how to do HP?

I'd keep the shea butter. I've never had that bring any softness to a recipe.
Couldn't you just use your regular recipe?

I would try HP. Be aware since not all of the water has evaporated, the bar might dissolve fairly quickly during use. HP is cold process that's cooked in a crock pot. Since you haven't had experience with HP, why not do Melt N' Pour for now?

Palm, coconut & olive oil will not give you much bubbles. I wouldn't mess with a new recipe. It wouldn't be ready in time.

Make your cp regular recipe immediately. Go to Walmart or any place you can get a "closet dehumidifier" tub of dehumidifier crystals. After you make your soap and it has been unmolded, put it in a cupboard, open the container of dehumidifier crystals (KEEP THEM IN THEIR CONTAINER) and place the container in the cupboard with the soap.

This tip was given to me by someone who used to make soap. I got one last week and the soap seems to be drying out faster.

I make CP soap and I use olive oil, coconut oil (76 degree), castor oil and shea butter. You can also add table salt to your lye water to make a recipe cure harder. Oh which one of these lovely ladies gave me that tip? Was it Linda? Coolah? Hetsey? One of them. My Sometimer's Syndrome is kicking in -- perhaps because it is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay past my bedtime.

Good luck!

Jill

Thanks ladies for the tips!! I don't do hp but I think I need to learn! I did get it made & have the crystals container setting in the middle of my curing bars. They do seem to be getting harder sooner than before. So we will see.....
