Teach Soap

I had to rebatch a loaf of cp, it just came out ugly, it was in my colum mold and had a lot of air pockets. Anyhow, I chopped it down and melted it with just a little water, I waited almost 2 days to unmold and cut, and another day later it's still on the soft side. Is that normal for a rebatch?

How much water to how much soap? Fresh CP needs no water and older rebatches don't take much water.

It was a couple day old soap, I used about an oz to 1.5 oz to around 40 oz of soap.

That's not too much, but because the soap was so fresh that may be why it's still soft. It should harden up as the water evaporates.

I hope it hardens, I love the scent!!
Do you think if I put it in the oven on low heat, to evaporate the water?

I won't! That's Irena. I guess I'll just have to wait it out. I hope it turns for the better, I hate losing a batch. But it happens. :-/

You can always get a container of dehumidifier crystals (for the closet), which is something I just got. It should dry out the soap (you leave it in its container and the soap is on a shelf -- you do not sprinkle the soap with the crystals)

Good idea, Jill. How has it worked for you? Can you tell any difference?

Well, I'm just about to try it. This tip came to me from somebody who used to make soap. Said it would dry it quite a bit faster. It made sense to me, so I just bought one. I thought if it works, it would be a big help because I've got so much soap to make for the May festival I'm doing.

It's still pretty soft. I'm thinking I may count these as a loss Not too bad I guess one loss in over 20 batches, right..

Shari, I would just stick it on a shelf somewhere and forget about it for a couple of months. As long as it doesn't zap, you can still use it, even if it is a bit softer than your regular soap.
