I was asked a question the other day on the forum about making candles in glass containers..
So a few question hopefully answered :
Container candles are made from a softer wax than pillars and tapers. The heat build-up in container candles like this could cause the glasses to shatter, which at best would send hot liquid wax all over whatever surface the item was sitting on. At worst, it could cause a fire! use the right wax ask your supplier.
You should really use solid and heavy glass for this this can be found in your local doller/pound shop shot glasses they are selling are brilliant for what we need But be very careful as some glass will break from heat and this is a fire hazard If the candle burns all the way to the bottom of the glass or the flame touches the sides, the glass could crack also please always place a container candle on a plate when in use. I use a clay pot stand from the garden centre with some nice coloured sand in it.
Candlemaking is a lot of fun, but you need to know what you're doing or you could end up giving a dangerous gift always test your own candles out first a good excuse to enjoy yourself anyway...
I recycle 20 oz pop/coke bottles cutting the bottoms off easy and cheep and less glass going to waste just ask at your local pub/bar or raid your local bottle bank you will find me jumping most folk some days for there old bottles as I enjoy making home made wine as well hic'hic and dont see the point of paying for something if I can get it for free

* Be careful not to cut yourself on the edges of the bottle I use wet sandpaper to make them safe
* As always, be careful when working with any source of fire and make sure you always get your mummy's permission before playing with fire
