Teach Soap

Hi Guys. Just starting to make soy wax melts. I would like the colours to match my soaps. As I am not using a wick to get clogged (obviously ) can I use the same colourants I use in my soap ie clays, cocoa, henna etc.. ..?

You help would be much appreciated.

I'm gonna have to say no. I'd be afraid they would/could smell off or burned even when heated on the melter. Also, if you use something that is water soluble instead of oil soluble, it will not mix with your wax and settle to the bottom. With all the candle dyes available, you should be able to match your soap colors pretty close the proper way. Good luck!!

Yes you can! I think the best way is to take the herbal colorant of choice and add it to heated wax, allow to simmer/heat and sit a while (for the color to saturate), then run the wax through a coffee filter to catch the particulates, then add the colored wax to your batch. Just make sure you run it through the coffee filter or other fine sieve, or else you will end up with bits that will not look good in the bowl and will speckle.
With some experimentation you will find the right amounts for good color and remain all natural! Enjoy the journey!
