Teach Soap

Hi everyone I'm new to the forum and also new into soapmaking, I haven't even started yet .

I'm planing my first batch to be in Septembera simple batch around 1.5 lb with simple oils that I found in the supermarket
I'm really excited and scared at the same time.

I want to start making soap because I think is a beautiful craft and I always enjoy making things for my family,
I don't plan to sell any soap it's going to be a family activity for my husband and me.

Whatever recipe you decide to use, make sure you run it through a lye calculator. For smaller batches, I would convert the ozs. to grams, to get better accuracy.

Thanks soapbuddy I'll make sure to do it in grams, wish me luck
I will post pics when I do my first soap, hubby is going to make the soap mold
hopefully everything will be fine.

Hi, Spices, and welcome to the forum! It's good that you're starting with a small batch and a simple recipe to help ensure success. I did the same thing for my first batch - olive, coconut, and palm oils; no colorants; and a well-behaved FO. It's so exciting when that first batch comes out looking and acting like soap! Like soapbuddy says, definitely run any recipe through a lye calc and measure in grams for greater accuracy. Also, know that soapmaking is extremely addictive! Good luck and have fun!

My name is arthur and I live in southeastern PA. I've been making MP soap
and soy candles & tarts for about a year. Currently I'm selling at local craft shows
a few times a year and I have home shows at my house in the Spring and in the Fall.
I also have a small group of items on consignment at a local country store that is doing quite well.
