Teach Soap

Hello All,

After watching vids and surfing the web for a week I'm hooked, and I'd like to get started with my soap making right away? However, I'm on a budget so I can only get what's absolutely necessary for the cold process. What MUST I have in order to get started (besides ingredients)???

Do I need a pricey ph tester?
Should I order small buckets?
Multiple glass measuring cups?

Any help, shortcuts, and or websites are appreciated

Welcome! Here is a start.

An accurate scale
heavy duty plastic pitcher to mix your lye water in
a stainless steel pot to mix your oils and lye water in. (some people use large, thick plastic bowls)
Be aware if you decide to use plastic bowls, essential oils could possibly melt them or the fragrance could get impregnated into the plastic.
a stick blender
safety goggles
disposable gloves
shirt with long sleeves
long pants
closed toe shoes
small glass cups to mix your fragrance or essential oil in
Do not use glass to mix your lye water in or your raw soap in!
If you have an accurate scale and measure properly (via the soap calc), you should not need pH strips.
Always run any recipe through a lye calc! Mistakes do happen.
