Teach Soap

I am 'brand new' to soap making, & have yet to start, but I am curious as to what everyone's deciding factor was for what recipe u started with, like if u followed a written recipe, or if u come up with ur own recipe to use, & if so what's the best, recommended, base to start with..... I started out with my mother's recipe that I changed over the years. Start simple and small without color of fragrance. Become familiar what trace looks like. Read and research. Come back and post your questions.

Thank you for the advice Irena, I appreciate it so much... I've been researching non-stop for the last couple weeks, & have checked out the Soapmaker's Companion & the Everything Soapmaking Book from the library, as well as looked at every resource the internet has available...... I'll be making some M&P soap this weekend & want to use Olive oil so I was wondering if u had a suggestion for which FO or EO u think would compliment the Olive oil best........

If you're using M&P you don't need to add any other oils. It's ready to go as is.

The Everything Soapmaking Book is my favorite resource for making CP soap. She has some wonderful recipes to start with, just be sure to run any CP recipe though a lye calculator like www.soapcalc.net or the one on the BrambleBerry website.

Thanks to both of u for the advice, I definitely plan to attempt both M&P & CP techniques, but this weekend i'll be using a kit for M&P soap & was gonna get a block of Olive oil to replace the glycerin that came w the kit & I want a scent that would compliment the Olive oil....
