Teach Soap

Hi everyone, thanks for letting me join the forum. I just wanted to stop by & say hi & thanks. I'm a complete soap making novice & my venture into soap making started with me pondering on what I could do with a surplus of fresh goats milk. I googled "soap making" & there began my learning. I spent several weeks just reading this forum, trying to make sense of words like "saponification", "trace" & "gel", before finally getting up enough courage to have a go at making my first batch. I followed the recommendations of more experienced forum members & kept it simple, making a basic all vegetable soap. Amazingly it went like clockwork, doing everying I had read it was supposed to do, & it's now nearly 4 weeks old & curing nicely.
Then I went back to reading & learning before getting brave enough to try a goats milk batch. Admittedly it was probably a bit ambitious for only my 2nd attempt, but once again it seems to have turned out ok. Earlier posts on making goats milk soap by experienced soapers, like Soapbuddy & Knine, proved invaluable to me & I just wanted to say thanks.

Anyway, here's a pic of soap from my first 2 batches, the blue one is my first batch of basic vegetable soap (coconut fragrance) & the white one on the right is my goats milk batch (unscented).

Wow, what a great job! Your goatsmilk soap is white! Yes! Martha Stewart had a show on that I did not see, but everyone e-mailed me to say that her soap was orange--no coloring added, no scent. They obviously did not freeze the milk I hope you have used it---- goatmilk soap is the best!!

Knine, no I haven't tried any of the goat milk soap yet, I'm being patient while it cures properly. Both batches have passed the zap test though, & I'm happy to have managed that.
I used fresh goats milk & froze the amount I needed in a plastic bag. I got it out of the freezer & broke it up into small pieces then added the lye while it was still frozen. I didn't let it gel & it's stayed a creamy white colour the whole way through. When I unmoulded it it was a lot softer than my first batch (which I gelled) but it's 2 weeks old now & hardening up really nicely.
