Teach Soap

I am so glad I found this forum and have really enjoyed reading the posts of so many seasoned soapers. I am fairly new to soaping, and so far have been enjoying the journey. I especially like trying my hand at CP soapmaking, and know I will be asking questions, as my batches often present surprises both good and not-so-good. I'm trying to find some tried and true recipes, colors and scents before making larger batches. Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge. It's good to finally find a place to seek answers.

Thank you, Soapbuddy. I have looked at Miller's Soaps, and they do have lots of fascinating articles and pictures of soapmaking. I even used one of the garden pictures they made available for my computer desktop and rendered fat to make soap once. I don't think I will be doing that again. I suppose I could say it was successful; however, I didn't enjoy the process or smell. Now I have been to your websites, too - how beautiful. I'll be happy to just get a picture into an e-mail as described on the site. After looking at some of your soaps, I have 2 different questions: 1) When do you use a stamp such as the "Handmade Soap" stamp on your pretty pink goatsmilk bar? I've been experimenting, but worry I'll use it too soon on soap that's too soft or wait too long, and it won't make much of an impression. 2) When you use a liquid such as green tea, is that in place of all of the water you would normally use? Also, do you make a strong brew, or just one like a normal cup of tea, such as a teaspoon or bag of tea per cup? Thanks so much. I'm planning my next batch as I type.

Thank you for all of the welcomes, helloes and advice. I have actually made two batches of soap in the past 2 days, which is amazing for me. It took me a year to just think things over enough to make my first batch. I can't say I've had any disasters, but each batch is a learning process. Tonight, I dropped the purple passion dye bottle right into the soap. I've been trying to make some of those lovely swirl soaps. This time, I made a very thin trace and perhaps my pattern will be more like what I've had in mind. However, the purple will be really dark, I imagine. My next challenge will be to try to post a photo or 2. I've come up with a whole collection of trial and error bars (some pretty amusing), as I try to hit upon a recipe that I'm comfortable working with that will also be kind to the skin. I'll be trying some of the ideas mentioned here on the forum for sure.

If the purple is very dark, you could always chunk it up and add it to an uncolored batch.
