I recently started making wedding favors for a friend's reception. I was so excited to see the finished color after using alkanet for the first time. I was trying to get purple and I was thrilled to get it. I mixed 1 tablespoon of powdered alkanet to 5 ounces of olive oil. I combined them in a mason jar, put the lid on and shook. After a minutes, I placed the mixture in my crock pot with the other oils. A few minutes later, I added my lye-water mixture and used a stick blender until all of the ingredients reached "trace". After cooking everything for roughly one hour and twenty minutes, I added some doTerra brand essential oil of lemon. The top layer of the soap looked purple but when placing it in molds, it looked almost brown. Fortunately, once it cooled, it was a beautiful dark purple. I typically check my pH using strips but due to the dark color of my soap, I thought that it would be difficult. Since I plan to let my soaps cure for a few weeks, I skipped that step.

Welcome!
I'm glad your color came out.
