Teach Soap

I just joined and I'm looking forward to being part of this forum. I have been living in the south of Italy for two and a half years. My husband and I moved here when we retired. After a lifetime of working for a living I am finally enjoying the opportunity to spend my days dabbling in all the crafts and hobbies that I couldn't spend time on before - it's wonderful

I have made a few batches of soap using the cold process method. There is no shortage of olive oil here (as you can imagine!) however, other soap making ingredients are difficult to find. I'll be looking for recipes that don't rely on coconut or palm oil as I can't locate supplies of these locally.

Over the winter I also tried my hand at making lip balm and solid perfume - still trying to get the balance right with those though .

If you can find castor oil, which adds bubbles to your soap, I would do 95% olive with 5% castor.

Thank you LL. Yes, it is lovely here - especially now that spring has started to make an appearance. Winters are not so good though - most Italian houses aren't built to keep the heat in....
