Hallo again. Just to let you know that I found some MP bases with goodies added, in the UK, & ordered an olive oil one. Tried it today, & was surprised to find it clear - 'cos I prefer white, I just asssumed it would be, so I mixed some clarynol with it & that did the trick.
I also bought cedarwood essential oil, which smells great in the bottle, but doesn't seem to perfume the soap at all. I used 4 drops in the first 7oz of base, then tried again with 8 drops, then another bar with quite a bit more, but it still has barely any scent at all...
Any clues? How much should be used in 7ozs?

Also, my oatmeal still sinks to the bottom of the mould.....would it help to stir it in the moulds when it's almost set, or would it just make a gooey mess? (I tried 'infusing' the oatmeal in boiling water.........yep, I got porridge !)Duh...

I'm really looking forward to the time when I might contribute something useful, but in the mean time, I've started a soap notes book,
and already I need to chuck out some boring ol' cooking stuff to make space for more soap making kit.

How are all you other new soap makers progressing?

If a Melt N' Pour base is white it has titanium dioxide added to whiten it. That's usually the only difference. For 7 ozs. of base, you would need about 40 drops of essential oil so you could smell it.
If you want to add oatmeal, you will have to add it at about the time the soap is getting a skin at the top or is just about set up, otherwise it will end up on the bottom.
Don't add any water to your base (even things as teas or water soluble extracts) as they could make your MP sticky or spongy.

Is you EO pure, or is it diluted?

Thankyou, soapbuddy! Didn't know that EO was sold diluted - I shall check, but that would explain it, wouldn't it? Do you generally need more EO than FO?

EO's have different strengths and so do fragrances. With some you need more and some need less. The best way to know is to try it. Most people add approximately 1/2 oz. of scent to 1 lb. of MP and anywhere from 1/2 oz to 1 oz. for 1 lb. of cold process soap.
