Hello everyone!

Im Bec and Im from Sydney Australia and I am newly addicted to soap making

At the moment I am playing around with M&P and loving it. I have made lotions and lip balms before (many years ago) and would like to try that again soon too.

I look forward to learning from you all.

For some reason I want to learn how to make soap...I have no idea WHY I want to learn how, I just do. I have a bed & breakfast in McKinney, Texas (the Virginia Rose Inn) and think it would be fun to have soap at the inn that I made with my own little hands. I have NO idea where to start! I don't want anything too overly ambitious or cost-prohibitive, but want it to be NICE. I'm thinking rose-scented, (as a signature scent) but wonder if this would be too floral for some of my male guests. Any suggestions on where I should start??

I have read that you can actually start out by using a pre-made base soap, then use that to create the final, creative soap. I don't think I'm ambitious enough to try making soap from scratch with lye without having taken a class or something. Any recommendations for good bases? This would be for a body bar, so I don't want it to be drying. Thanks!!

You can use soap base made for rebatch, but the end result will most likely be aesthetically challenged.
Bramble Berry has rebatch base on their web site.

Making soap from scratch isn't that difficult and you'd probably LOVE it once you tried it. Why not offer to let a soapmaker come and stay for free at your B&B and in exchange, they could teach/demonstrate making soap? That would be a win-win situation!

Room would be for 2 people and includes a full plated breakfast. Give me a call at 972-529-9598. I am located in downtown McKinney, TX; within easy walking distance to the charming downtown square. About 30 miles north of Dallas.
