I've been making melt & pour bars for some time now but the bars always seem too soft. The bars are only good for about 3-4 showers, Particularly the goats milk!. I've tried all types of solutions including using a double boiler, adding beeswax, leaving the base uncovered while microwaving to remove excess water. Nothing seems to work. I've been using the Crafters Choice Goat's Milk Base. I've been wondering if it's the base. If so can anyone tell me what's the best base to use for a hard bar and if there's any additive that I could use to get the harder bar? I know sodium lactate can be used to create a harder CP bar but does it work for M&P? Please Help!

I don't care for that supplier's base. If you want a harder bar, try BrambleBerry's low sweat base. It has less glycerin, so it sweats less and is harder. There are no ingredients that you can add yourself to make the MP base harder. Sodium lactate will not work with MP to make it harder.

What size bars are you making? I've used the GM base from Oz which is meant to be the same as Bramble Berry and a standard soap size bar lasts 2+ weeks!

I'm using a standard 2 Lb loaf mold cut into approximately 1 inch bars

Oh wow. So your bars are thicker than mine. I wonder why they go so quick... mine last at least two weeks with one adult showering every day. :?

I'll definitely try to change my soap base.

I agree with soapbuddy on the Crafters Choice base, they tend to dissolve quickly.

Coolah, I've used Brambleberry Soap Bases in the past with great success but what does Oz stand for (probably a stupid question, but please forgive me I'm new)

One other thing - do you keep the bars out of standing water - Does your soap dish drain well?

Thank you Genny, and yes the bars are in water a lot. I know that contributes

I'm pretty sure BB sells SFIC base.

I've found that glycerin soap does "melt" faster than stuff you buy at the store or cold process UNLESS you have a soap dish with good drainage.
