Hi everyone! I'm a long-time lurker, but I'd really like to compare techniques for making whipped frosting for cupcake soaps and bath bombs. I read where someone on the forum said they just whip M&P and use it with no additives, while others use whipped body butter or liquid soap in their toppings.

Well, this newbie has a lot of questions for you seasoned soapfolk :

Do the whipped butter frostings get hard like normal M&P? Which topping works best with cupcake bath bomb bottoms? Are soap tops and bath bomb bottoms usually stuck together, or would that make the bomb start to break down?

Well it kind of depends on what texture you are going for.
There is an awesome SoapQueen TV episode and she uses just melt and pour and natural liquid castile soap.

Now if you want something fluffy, then I would check out the recipe with melt and pour and foaming bath whip (one of my favorites!) She also gives you different recipes and examples at the end depending on how hard you want the frosting. (I use number 3)

Whipped butter on its own won't get hard. The soap does stay on the bath bomb but it is fairly easy to just pop off. I think it might also depend on your recipe though.

I'm still playing with mine. I use foaming bath whip, mirangue powder and glycerin. I've been playing with the ratios but haven't found one I'm super happy with yet. Good luck though!

I'm not good at piping, so I bought a 3-d silicone cupcake mold that makes a realistic-looking frosted top. I am looking for something like a solid bubble bath recipe that would hold its shape in the mold and after removal, but dissolve in the bath. If there's not one, I'll just do regular M&P for the top.

It sounds like I need to dive into the Soap Queen tutorials! The ones I've seen are pretty awesome and inspiring.
