Teach Soap

Don't know about you, but I sometimes cringe when someone wants one or two bars from one of my patterned slab/tray Milky Way molds and I don't have any that are "fresh" enough to send. I recently got an order for one Celtic Knot soap made in one of those molds. I didn't want to use 2 pounds of soap to do an entire tray, knowing that some of them would likely go unused and eventually too old to sell, give as family gifts or melted down for another soap.

So, I reached for some clay, the kind that never gets hard, and "walled off" two compartments in the mold, leaving some extra space around the cavities to allow for cutting. Mixed and poured just enough soap to fill the two cavities. It worked! When it was hard, removed the clay and popped the soap out of the mold. It trimmed perfectly.

Hope this helps others who run into this dilemma.

Could I divide off my loaf mold with this? I use cardboard now.

Do I mold the clay against a piece of cardboard? I have not worked with clay.

This kind of clay gets hard - right,

& then toss it away?

I keep my clay in a ziploc bag so it stays pliable and reuse it when I'm done. I make the "wall" as straight as I can. I don't use cardboard.

Hi,
Is it the Original Sculpey Clay or the Sculpey Clay III that needs to be baked or does it matter?

I want to try this

I take it back. What I have is Vanken Modeling Clay. It never hardens.
