Hi I'm new to this site and only been making soaps for a year now and customers keep asking me for a face soap.

I use melt and pour goats milk soap base and olive oil plus scent and colors.

I don't know what to add to make it a face soap.

Please help!!

Welcome!
Goats milk soap base and a little olive oil with no color of fragrance should work. Don't add more then 1 TBS. of olive oil per lb. of the soap base. Otherwise you will start to loose bubbles.

Face Soap usually means less ingredients. Facial skin requires a more gentle approach and a lot of people will react with fragrances, colours, etc.
For example the ONLY thing I can use on my face is plain goat's milk soap - no colours, no fragrance, no additives (so no olive oil, that would make me break out).

Thank you that helps a lot.
I think Im putting to much olive oil in to I was doing 4tbs plus 4tbs of water for a pound. Think I need to revise my recipe that I got out of a book. :/ thank you for the help!!

That might explain why I kept breaking out when I used my soap on my face.

MP soap should not have any extra water added. It will make the soap softer and it will not last as long. MP base soap can be remelted a couple of times. After that, the soap looses moisture and can be drying.

Not sure where you are located, but if you can order in a good quality Goat's Milk Base, you can just use that as is. I tried a few different ones before I found one I liked, and for my face, I just take some of that base, melt and pour into mold I have here. That's it. My face loooooooves it!

Cold Cream Soap

4 oz M&P soap
2 tsp cold cream
10 drops fragrance oil
1 drop coloring (optional)

Melt soap, then add cold cream and stir until melted. Remove from heat; add fragrance and color, and then mold.

found the above on the web...never used it so I know nothing about it. but thought it was a face soap. cause cold cream is for face I believe but I'm not an expert by a long shot. [url][http://www.halderman.net/cgi-bin/showrecipe.pl?mp/url]

here's the link where I got the infor on the cold cream soap. Melissa

Old fashioned cold cream has borax, distilled water, oil that is liquid at room temperature and beeswax. That won't help much with a facial soap. Or if you are thinking of milk based cream, milk in a MP base can go bad, since it doesn't saponify.

If you buy Brambleberry's soap sampler kit, you could try mixing a small amount of the goatsmilk and honey bases together (unscented) for a nice milk and honey soap. Both soap bases have a mild natural scent on their own. If you want to make an exfoliating soap you could add a little ground oatmeal (not whole oatmeal - too rough for the face, ugh), ground loofah or small jojoba beads (1 tbsp total per lb soap) added to your soap. I've tried this and it was nice, but you definitely need to use good soap bases. By getting BB's soap sampler though, you get to try out all their soap bases individually or mixed together for the different properties of each to see which one you (and your testers) like the best. But I agree with Coolah, simple is best. I personally prefer plain castile soap or Soapbuddy's goatsmilk soap. :)
