Looking for a good Coconut M & P recipe?

I bought a M & P soap from a shop recently, the soap label says,

"coconut milk and cocoa butter and scented with rich coconut essential oil is in the bar".

The bar is very white in color, fabulous scent but doesn't really lather to well. Skin felt nice afterwards though. Love to find a great all around good scent and creamy lather coconut recipe.

Thanks,

Nancy Q.

There is no such thing as coconut essential oil.
Sounds like regular MP to which some milk and cocoa butter has been added along with a "coconut" fragrance oil.
Looks on BrambleBerry's web site for a really nice MP.
http://www.brambleberry.com/meltandpour.html

It doesn't lather real well because anytime you add more oils and or butters you will loose some of the lathering abilitites.

Thank You!!!

Okay more questions off of your reply. If I use a 1 pound of my M & P (goats milk or shea butter soap) soap, how much coconut milk should I approximatley use? Is is okay to buy the milk at local grocers or is there a good resource to buy the milk from?

I so appreciate all of your help. My husband loves the tropical smelling soaps and lotions.

I would not use more than 1 teaspoon per lb. The reason for that is that coconut milk has proteins in it, which could possibly grow moldy, due to the water content.
Also, anytime you add any liquid to MP, it might make the soap softer.

I would use coconut oil instead of coconut milk for M&P so that your soaps are less likely to spoil. Like Soapbuddy said, add no more than 1 tsp additives to 1 lb base so that your soap doesn't lose its lathering ability. Brambleberry has excellent M&P bases, coconut oil and coconut fragrance oils available. Look here for BB's Island Coconut or here for Cybilla Coconut which has a more toasted coconut scent .

I wouldn't use water in M&P - it grows yucky stuff!

That's why when I used milk powder in my soap I mixed it in as is by sifting it into the base to prevent clumping, instead of making the paste as suggested by FNWL. Just make sure you don't overstir or beat the powder in or you'll get bubbles/foam. :)
