Hi Ladies and gents (are there any men on board?)! I have a few more questions before I get started. I'm so eager to place my first order soon! :D

1. What is the best base to use if I want to try adding color? Will all bases work well with coloring, or only clear?

2. Do you guys use essential or fragrant oils...or both? If you use fragrant oils is the scent fairly strong, or is it a lot lighter than essential oils? I tend to really enjoy the more stronger scented soap.

3. About how many bars will one pound of soap base make?

Thanks so much for all your help! I'm lovin' it here so far! 8)

1. As far as color goes, you can add it to any base. It's brighter & darker in clear mp. But if you don't want your soap see through, add your color to your clear base, then add just a touch of white mp to make it not see through any more.

2. I use fragrance oils. I've used Essential Oils & sometimes still do for certain things. But, I find fragrance oils to be easier to work with and less fussy. I do think that good fragrance oils stick in soap longer than many essential oils.

3. That would depend on the size you want your bars. If you want 4 oz bars of soap, you'd get 4 bars of soap.

Depending which color you add and which base (white or clear), you will get a lighter or darker color. Micas sparkle better in clear as the light shines through the color. Since white base has titanium dioxide, it will make the same amount of color lighter then in clear.

I use both fragrance and essential oils. If you are planning on selling, I would get a small, accurate scale (like a jeweler's scale) to measure small amount of any fragrance or essential oil. You can also use pipettes and measure in ml's. Not all fragrances or essential oils are used at the same %. Some are stronger, some are not adviseable at larger amounts (ie: cinnamon oil) as they can be irritating to the skin.

Most of my bars are 4 ozs. as well, so I get 4 bars out of 1 lb. of MP base.
