I got some Water-Soluble-Paper from BB. It states to use it with an inkjet (not lazer) printer & then spray it with hairspray and let it sit for 2 days, but then in another section about the Make like a Leaf it states to print it on any type of color printer onto Water Soluble Paper.

http://www.brambleberry.com/Water-Solub ... P3318.aspx

The paper is very thin and not 8.5 by 11 but smaller; so maybe this is why it jams.

I'm wondering if I can tape it, just in the corners, to a regular sheet of 8.5 by 11 and if this will help it feed through more easily?

Also, is there a right and wrong side to this paper?

How close do I need to cut it to the image or do the edges show through the soap?

Any hints on how to do this?
Dee

Most inkjet & laser printers will allow you to change the paper size and weight. You need to make the adjustments before printing by changing the printer properties (or preferences depending on your printer). It will usually give you a list of paper sizes in one place, and then a selection of different paper types/weights in another. I haven't used the water soluable paper, but I have printed on thin paper with no problem. Hope this helps! :D

It jams all the time for me too. The paper is thin and not exactly the same size. I was going to try cutting it and sticking it to a plain sheet of printer paper for my next project. It seems it's only a few millimeters off. Let us know what works for you!

As far as I can tell there's no right or wrong side.

I haven't had much luck with it looking good on darker backgrounds. I just stick to white/very pale. The edges of the images aren't noticeable at all.

When we first got this paper in it was for inkjet printers only. However, the paper is now safe for either. Looks like the site has the written description right but the video has the older info;

I will send in an email to see if they can get it edited or add a note to update the video. :D

Thank you, Bramble Momma
Can I tape the corners to a regular sheet of 8.5 by 11; so maybe it will feed through the printer easier?

Dee,

I have a HP inkjet printer that doesn't jam, but the color bled in a day. The copy machine at Office Max have jammed twice and I was told not to use the paper anymore. I am thinking to buy a laser printer but afraid of if it jams. Let us know if the way you do works.

Hisae,
Did you spray it with hairspray and let it sit for two days first? I read this on BB that this had to be done if an inkjet was used.

I haven't tried it yet. I want to get it right; so I don't waste my paper.

I also tried to buy some original clipart so I wouldn't run into copyright problems. It started getting complicated for a $3.95 piece of clipart. They wanted to charge me a $20.00 set up fee.

Oh well,
Dee

Dee,

I didn't dry it for three days and spray it at that time. I just dried it for two days and it didn't work. So, right now, I am following what Soap Queen said on her youtube. I will let you know if this works.

I don't have to worry about the art part because my friend created it for my future shop. It's original. :)

I'll try sticking a water soluble page to regular printer paper this weekend see what happens. Will let you know!

Hi, this is what BB told me:

"And for water soluble paper, you can use both laser or inkjet. We’ve tested both and gotten great results either way"

Nothing was said about spraying the paper with hairspray and letting it sit; so maybe the best bet is to use a lazer or a pigment based printer.

Dee,

This is my Inkjet test result.

I dried a ws paper for 3 days, spray it with hairspray and dried it again for 2 days. I spent total 5 days to dry the paper completely. I made soaps using the paper on the day. Then, the result was OK... The drawing became little dull after 4 days, comparing soaps using the laser printed paper, but it hasn't bled yet. Hope this helps.

Anyone familiar with Krylon clear spray? I wonder if this would work better than hairspray.

I wouldn't use it, because it can cause irritation to the skin. I would continue to use hairspray as the fixative :)
