I tried the Brambleberry fragrance calculator: no matter what EO or FO you choose - it gives the EXACT same results....

That cannot be right!!! If every single EO or FO they carry is to be used at the exact same amounts - why bother with listing them? Why not just put a simple guide that says - this base needs X amount of EO or FO per ounce for mild, medium or strong fragrance. Their calculator just seems to show how much the base will hold and has nothing to do with the strength of the FO or EO needed for a particular level of fragrance.

For example - lavender and Spearmint are both quite strong - the citrus ones much less so - yet the same numbers are given for each.

Am I missing something? Please feel free to explain it to me!!

Hi Kat,
I noticed this and wondered about it myself. I've heard people say FO - a TBL;
EO - a tsp. and the chart seemed to bear this out because it is a TBL for FO & a tsp for EO.
It's the same for every FO & EO.

I don't use a fragrance calculator. I know if I use mint (for example), I usually go 0.5 oz. per lb. of base or soap because it's pretty strong. For citrus oils I usually go 1 oz. per lb. of soap as citrus tends to fade.

Oddly, tho - I used only 1ml of grapefruit EO in my sample bacth of just 2 oz, and it smelled better/stronger after several hours than it did right away....

I just used the calculator and I got different results from different eo's. Grapefruit was not the same as peppermint.

edited to say: Now I just went back and did the same ones again, and they are the same

Ok - we plugged in some FO's and it does look like something is definitely off! Thanks for catching this! We have our programmers on it now.

has the fragrance calculator been fixed yet?

Ok, it has been fixed now.

Most of the fragrances we have are specifically formulated to be used at the same usage rates, so a lot of them will come up the same.

We did double check some of the EO’s and frags that are stronger and they are definitely coming up with different usage rates.
