Hi everyone. I'm new to soap making so please forgive me if my questions sounds so stupid that it makes you want to question the faith of human kind.

Anyways, so I'm looking for a site that sells cheap melt&pour base, and I notice that some site list have

"Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil," in their ingredients, while other sites have this

Ingredients:
• Water
• Glycerin
• Sodium Stearate
• Sorbitol
• Sodium Laurate
• Propylene Glycol
• Sodium Laureth Sulfate
• Goats Milk
• Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
• Sodium Chloride
• Stearic Acid
• Lauric Acid
• Titanium Dioxide
• Pentasodium Pentetate
• Tetrasodium Etidronate

which seems to have no coconut oil, palm oil, nor safflower oil. Does that mean that base does not contain that? Because if you read the description; it says that it is made out of vegetable oils, and mainly coconut. However, I cannot find that in the ingredient list.

Anyways, my question is; does it matter? Can I go with the second one and still get a base that is as moisturizing as the first? Gosh, I hope I'm making sense. Well, here, I'll put up the actual site for comparison.

http://www.newdirectionsaromatics.com/m ... p-600.html (which sells 2 lbs for just $4.18

http://www.brambleberry.com/Goats-Milk- ... P3184.aspx (which is $3.30 for just 1 lbs)

Now I bought the brambleberry goat milk base before, and I'm absolutely in love with it; however, it's a bit expensive. If there is so differences between them; should I just go with the first website?

I can't use SLS that you have in the ingredients list. It makes me itch. I prefer to buy this BrambleBerry base> http://www.brambleberry.com/Clear-Melt- ... P3189.aspx
I'd rather pay a little bit more and get a good quality base, then one that's full of chemicals.

I haven't used the other base, only BB and it's great! I would spend the extra money and get BB bases. I did research on soap bases before I bought any and repeatably saw other people talking about how great BB bases are. Luckily I had read a lot and just went with them instead of anyone else first. I've used the clear, white, goat, shea and olive oil. I'm fond of the olive oil base myself! I even said next time I can order, I think I will order mainly olive oil and make most of my soaps with that base.

I've gotten bases from a few different places... my first experience was with craft store brand (Life of the Party), which is absolutely not worth considering. I've gotten bases from www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com, and they're nice enough but I don't like all of the chemicals. The only BB base I've tried so far was the (non bulk) Goat's Milk MP and I LOVED it. BB's base produced a very rich and easy lather, very soft and conditioning. I won't be buying my bases anywhere else now.

I think it's best if you research the ingredients in each of them to find out what they're in there for, then decide which one's you'd like to try. That way you'll know what makes the soap you're using and making good soap. Plus it really helps if you plan on selling and people ask you what one of the ingredient's is used for. When researching don't be afraid of the word "chemical." Chemical does not mean bad. Anything made up of matter is a chemical.
If you're going for a soap that doesn't dry your skin out more, then I'd stay away from any that have surfactants in them. Surfactants give that "skin tightening" feeling after you wash, which means the water in your skin is decreased.
Brambleberry's base is very nice. It's only $2.75/lb if you buy 10 lbs of it. So if you plan on using a lot, try going that way to save yourself money in the long run.
There are some soap suppliers that are little less expensive then BB, but honestly not many. Natures Garden Candles is $5.99/lb for their Natural type bases. Soapies-Supplies I believe starts at $5.75 for their base. But if you want to find someone close to you to maybe save you money on shipping, check out suppliersbystate.com
