Teach Soap

I just tried a new base and I guess I need to go a different direction with it. I made some soap to make curlie cues out of, made the curlies placed them in the molds, and everything was beautiful. Excellent little curlies, I am very happy with the tools I just bought on ebay, they made the best curlies. Anyway I bought the Stephenson SLS free base. From the description it aid it was slightly cloudy but clear enough to put embedded objects in. So, I make some up and it is not clear at all, it is very cloudy and has tons of little bubbles in it. Unless there is something I did wrong, but I never saw it clear at all. It was even white before it came out of the container. I love how it feels, but the look is not what I was expecting.

While I can see how you'd want them clearer, I think they're quite cute!

I think they are adorable. What a clever idea (with the curly q's). Pardon me for saying this, but I think you are being too hard on yourself. Cut yourself a break, they look great (ok, I rhyme now...)

Thanks everyone!! I guess I expected it to look much different in my head, and that is why I am disappointed. I like them, but it just doesn't meet the expectations I had for it. I use one every morning in the shower and I love it!!!

I have to agree with everyone else - these soaps look great as is and would probably be not as cute if your base was completely clear. And have you considered the fact that the FOs you used might have also tinted the soap base and increased its cloudiness? As for the bubbles in your soap, did you spray your soap with alcohol before it set up? I know that a lot of people worry about using alcohol in M&P, but without it, your soap will have bubbles especially if you have embeds like you do in this soap. If you use only a spritz or two from a fine mister/spray bottle, the alcohol should dissipate anyway.

I spritzed the embeds but not the actual base. I added the FO last and the base looked just like it did before I added it. I may have to play around with how I melt this base. Maybe next time I will use the double boiler or the crockpot instead of the microwave.

I can't just spray the base with alcohol can I? It just seems like I would have needed a lot of rubbing alcohol to get rid of all the bubbles in the base.
