In my experience, beeswax makes my soap go all soft.

I've not had good luck with sugar before either; it has always made my MP soft and sticky, over time, as the sugar broke down.

I'm looking forward to following this project and see what you end up with. =)

I would think that sugar combined with normal sweating or dew is sure to cause the sugar to melt and get yucky. Anytime you get any moisture on sugar at all it turns into syrup - like sprinkling on berries. Good for berries, bad for M&P soap - especially in Hawaii.
I quit doing M&P in Hawaii because of all the moisture problems I had - I just couldn't deal. At least you're on the "Dry" side. ( Not dry enough?)
