I just wanted to share with everyone an edited recipe that BB features on her blog on sugar scrub cubes!! I have had excellent results with these sugar scrub cubes, I am under Serenity Naturals on Etsy and someone bought some and gave me a wonderful review, and I demonstrated them to a friend and because of the softness of her skin after use (she washed her hands with one in the kitchen sink!!) and the ease of use, she actually bought some from me right there!!!
Ok, the recipe (July 4th 2009) calls for a total of
6 oz of MP soap (white & clear)
6oz of grapeseed oil
18oz of white sugar and of couse
fragrance oil.

I usually try to downsize a recipe just in case I make too much and then can't sell it (or try to!!) or if I might not like the results, I might not be able to salvage, so I make test batches. When I made them the first time, I used the method that I figured out from her recipe, the sugar being triple the amount of the first ingredient, which would be the 6oz of MP. So my measurements were 3oz of mp, 3oz of oil and 9oz of white sugar. I noticed that the mixture of the whole bar after it was ready to be cut was very hard and not easy to use afterwards in the shower s I tweaked it in order for it to be easy to use in the shower.

3oz of melt and pour
3oz of olive oil
7oz of white sugar
fragrance oil

This batch was much easier to cut, smoosh in your hands, not oily and not too sugary, and to top it off, i rolled them in sugar afterwards!!! @Ann-Marie - thank you so much for posting recipes that we are able to make our own, without your expertise and knowledge with easy pics and instructions to follow, TeachSoap wouldn't be the same!!! (You too Soap Buddy!!!) I just wanted to tell everyone that just in case they didn't know this recipe is WONDERFUL!!!

No preservative needed, I followed the recipe on BB's blog and there was no preservative mentioned so I didn't add one!! I still have sugar cubes that I made 2 months ago and they are still in the same condition as the day I made them!!

Did you measure the olive oil by weight or fluid ounces? Also, did the olive oil color the cubes or did they stay white?

I weighed all of the ingredients by ounces, I colored the soap to coordinate with the scents; Coconut Lemongrass was yellow, Olive Blossom was light green and the banana pudding was a tan color. I haven't done it without colors but when I do I will definitely let you guys know!!! :)

Yay! So glad you are enjoying the recipe and making it your own.

I do want to clarify though, this recipe was created by Erin Pikor of Naiad Soaparts. She posted as a guest Blog post on Anne-Marie's Soap Queen Blog. And she gave us permission to use it in one of our Soap Queen TV videos, so look for that in the next couple of months!

To see more of Erin's work check out her website here http://www.naiadsoaparts.com/

I made two small batches today and used sweet almond oil for the oil. The first time, it got thick on me real quick. I was able to cut them into cubes but they look a little crumbly. The second batch, I didn't use as much sugar as the recipe called for (on the SQ blog) and it was actually looking like the pictures on the blog....pourable. They are still in the mold cooling off so I hope they turn out better...they look more oily though. Definitely trial and error, lol.

These sound like fun. Do you use a suspension M&P, or any type? Thanks for the tips!

I have made these and do like them more as a hand scrub than body. I also prefer the grapeseed oil over the olive oil. I have (actually had) eczema but this winter have not had an episode.... don't know if it is because of the grapeseed oil or not. I do know it has very good skin properties and is readily available at the grocery store. Just wanted to share.

ok, I made the solid sugar cube/bar as Anne Marie shows on her video
http://www.youtube.com/user/soapqueentv ... wISdSEsBbE
This is not "squishy" in or out of the shower. Its very hard, does not lather. How does one use these, exactly? Is this something that is used AFTER one has washed with a soap, and then this is an after scrub/moisturizer? Is this supposed to squish or stay hard? It is VERY oily, slippery actually. And I guess because its so hard, I really don't get the exfoliation of the sugar on my test. Since I've never heard of sugar/salt scrubs before becoming interested in soap making and coming here, can someone give me a little more insight/understanding how these are used?
Thanks! :|
