I have been using the soap base I got from hobby lobby and Michaels and it did fine. As soon as I switched to an all natural soap base and tried making oatmeal soap, I noticed the oats and spices just sink to the bottom which of course is the top after taken out of the mold. Its actually pretty but Im not sure if I can sell it that way or not. Its really messing up an oatmeal soap I make in a pringles can. I use a crinkle cutter to cut it but all the oats are at the end instead of all the way through. :( What can I do about this?

The MP base from hobby lobby and Michaels is a surfactant based MP. It has different ingredients than your natural MP base. Surfactant based bases ten to suspend ingredients like oats better. For the natural base to suspend ingredients, you need to add them at the very last moment, just before the base thickens up too much. That way it will stay suspended. There is also a suspending MP base made specifically for instances like this.

Thank you. :) Do you know if I can get that base in all natural? Its kinda what my business stands for. I have to make sure that Im not false advertising if there is chemicals in the soap.

Will this organic stuff help with the sinking oats? What im buying now is from wholesale soap making supplies and its fine except that the oats sink. It does take a while to cool also and the middle takes even longer so when I layer stuff I get kinda freaked out about it. lol Im always afraid the layers will mix or end up separating.

This is what I do when using oatmeal in my soap. Mix the soap, fragrance, and oatmeal together. Cover with saran wrap, let set for a little bit, and stir. Keep doing this until the oatmeal stays suspended.

Give it a try...it does work. That way you won't have to buy the suspending base until you need to buy more base.

I grated the soap and melted it again and poured it into the mold. Its perfect! :) Some oats did sink again but the soap is now all the same color so it actually turned out really pretty. Im so relieved to know there is an answer.

I tried two different ways. One was to just barely melt the rebatch soap that I shaved down. It was clumpy like thick oatmeal and that kept the soap all the same all the way through. The other thing I tried was melting it down more then clumpy oatmeal and pouring it into the mold. That came out much better then it had to start with but some oats still sunk which means they were on the top of the bar. It didn't look bad though because the rest of the bar was the same color. Both of those worked for me.
