I made a few loafs of MP about...maybe two weeks ago. I wrapped them both in Saran Wrap until I was ready to cut and shrink wrap (both loafs were stored in a cool area). Today I cut them and they broke apart at the corners. They don't feel dry and I haven't changed my recipe or cutting method. Has anyone had this happen? I'm trying to figure out what went wrong. The only thing I can think of is that I kept them wrapped in Saran for too long. Or perhaps too much EO? I was soooo bummed! I know I can always remelt them but I'd rather not repeat this mistake. Any ideas?

Where did your MP base come from and how much FO did you use per lb.?

Hi Soapbuddy,

I get my base from a reputable wholesale company...I've never had a problem. The loaf was 44 oz. and I used 1 tbsp (15 ml) EO. Do you think that was the problem?

So that's 2.75 lbs. You should have been able to fragrance it with at least 1 oz. of fragrance. If this is a base that you normally use and haven't had a problem til now, it could be because the loaf dried up a bit or the fragrance was not suitable for MP. That's all I can think of. I normally keep mine in large ziploc bags or they are shrink wrapped and I live in a very dry climate.

Hmmm...I wonder if I let it sit in the Saran Wrap too long? The EO blend has oakmoss and cypress - can't remember what else. I melted and pour it again last night to see what happens again. That way, if the problem repeats I'll know it's in the ingredients and not the way it was stored.

I'm curious to see how it does after this melting.
