I have a friend who wants to buy some soaps and take them to India as gifts - she lives here in Berkeley where I live. She was worried about the transport and heat once in India (in the summer time - 110 degrees). I'm not sure how many she plans to buy but my guess is that it wil be 10-20 soaps. In either case I can fit those soaps in 2 small usps (vhs like) boxes with a bit of padding/bubble wrap if needed. I was thinking she will either carry it on the plane or store in her luggage. I think the soaps would be fine either way (just like mailing overseas) in the boxes. And even when she get's to India she's going to a metroplitan area. I forget which large city. I think once given to friends and put in homes in the bathroom or kitchen sink - the heat will have no affect on the soaps since they are inside - UNLESS she stored them outside for days in the box in direct sunlight with the sun beating down on the soap to cause it to melt before she gave it to them. Or I suppose if her friends put the sun in direct sunlight on a windowsill. While I can make no predictions - I'm confident she can take these soaps with her without issue.

Does anyone have any comments or input on this subject.
Thanks
Hilary

Regardless of what MP base you're using, try to individually shrinkwrap each bar securely as humidity is a problem, especially in the approaching monsoon season. Outside of that, most homes have fans if not air conditioning so the heat itself shouldn't be an issue. I hope your friend enjoys her trip to India - I've loved it every time I've been.

Maybe using a Low Sweat base might be an idea

Thanks Pops and Silversprite. I already wrap the soaps in a biodegradable compostable wrapping (from Nashville Wraps) so I think I'm covered there. As far as the low sweat - the soaps are already made so she is going to choose from my inventory. Sounds like they'll get there with her safely and won't be a total disaster once she has given them out. She's Indian so while I think she enjoys her visits - family is always involved so there's that aspect too :+}

She (your friend) will probably have some ideas herself about how to transport and pack them. I travelled to India taking chocolate for gifts and packed each choc in tinfoil and sealed them in a tin as insects can be a problem. I would suspect with scented soap there could be same problem of fragrance attracting insect life. Certainly the choc survived remarkably well this way. Neither the heat or insects damaged them.
