Hello!

I did a search for dried ingredients and found lots of good information. I still have a question or two.

Fragrant Rosemary and Mint are growing in my garden and would like to dry some to use in M&P soap. I understand how botanicals can turn dark, but was wondering if the shelf life of the soap would be affected. I've never read any concerns about rose petals, lavender or calendula petals. Other than discoloration, is it okay to add different botanicals and expect the soap to be safe for use for a year or so?
How about oats?

Thanks much!

I just pulled out a bar of Chamomile that I did almost 2 years ago. I used dried Chamomile in it. It is still wonderful. Just make sure that your herbs are completely dry or the moisture could cause mold. I don't know about using Rosemary in it, that could be very scratchy. I use oats but I grind them very finely.

Just as long is it thoroughly dry you should be ok. Be aware that the scent will not come through.

soapcrafter, this will be a first try for me. The plants will require some drying time in the closet!.
I'll keep you posted.
