Hi, all,
The other day, I noticed that my M&P base was cloudy. I'm not sure if I got this base from BrambleBerry or another supplier, but either way it was an SFIC base. I'm picky about my base, and use only SFIC.
It was yellow-ish, which is normal for clear bases, but it also had a sort of opaqueness to it. Very murky. This was before I added color or fragrance oil or anything to it -- this was right after chopping the base and melting it.
Here's a photo that may help. I was taking photos for an upcoming tutorial I was planning to post on my blog. I wish I had thought to take a picture just of the base, but you can kind of see what I'm talking about in this picture. I am adding oxide to the just melted base before any fragrance oil was added. See how it's kind of a milky white-yellow color?
Even so, the base takes on color beautifully and the finished bars look great, so no complaints there. Here's a photo after pouring my first layer. This is the clear base with violet oxide, and you can see that it's bright and normal-looking with color added:
I tried a sliver leftover from my project to test the soap, and it seems to lather fine. It acts like good quality soap in every way except for the initial cloudiness.
Any ideas what might cause a base to be cloudy right off the bat? And, if the soap seems to be functioning fine, is there any reason not to use it? Is the soap okay?
Thanks!
