Hello! I have a few questions and was hoping you could help. I would like to make a gentle, moisturizing bar of soap as my children have sensitive skin and are starting to get dry patches this time of year. We've been using Dove for sensitive skin and I've heard that it's really not the best to be using.

I have the M&P goat's milk and shea butter soap bases picked out. Are there any other ones you would recommend?

I'm thinking I don't need to get any essential or fragrance oils because they are drying to sensitive skin, right?

For molds, how many is recommend to start with? I like the basic rectangle bars and will be making a few bars at a time. This is what is difficult for me as I can't see them in person.

TIA!

Depending how old your kids are, you can use lavender or tangerine essential oil at a small amount. Otherwise you can use the bases as is. The ones from our forum owners, BrambleBerry, are very nice. If you are just making a couple of soaps here and there, get one basic mold and another fancier mold to play around with. Most essential oils are not drying.

Good to know on the essential oils and thanks for the recommendations! I do have the Brambleberry bases picked out. I will have to look through the molds again as there are so many. I'm getting impatient only because I want to start making soap! Thank you!

I just made my first bar of goat's milk soap and love it! I thought it was going to "stink" but it doesn't-it smells really nice. Feel's great too!

LOL! It's not the soap that should stink, but it should take the stick away!! Glad to welcome a new member into the soapmaking community! Hope your children like your soaps.

Heehee! For some reason I thought goat's milk would have a strange smell to it. :) The whole family has used the soap and they love it. Even my husband likes it! I made a shea butter and olive oil soap too but haven't used it yet.
