Hi,
We have an upcoming craft fair that I am considering attending. There are two other soap makers who will be set up there. One only has CP bars (and a HUGE inventory) and the other sells MP, but only in single colored bars and gift baskets.

My soaps are soap rocks, and right now that's all I have. I would ike to know what you recommend of things that sells best, might work along side these rocks and is quick to make? Any other advice you have or experiences that would be helpful (or just plain funny) would also be welcomed.

I did one other booth, at a small gathering. The results were good enough to encourage me to try something bigger. I'm a pretty good sales person, but need more input about what works, and what doesn't in the way of product and/or handouts. Do you feel like samples are worth the time, money and effort?

Barbara,
Your soap stones are beautiful and that's what I would concentrate on. As you get to know this market, you can add something else later.

Hi Baraka -
I've only done 2 fairs (my kids school and a July 4th venue - which turned out not to be the right venue) but have learned a ton on each one as I keep refining/thinking how I want my booth to represent me and my soaps going forward. I've got another fair I signed up for come October in Berkeley (very close in my neighborhood which is a well attended fair and what I believe *will be* the proper venue). So I myself am thinking of a few things now as I start to make more inventory this month.

Anyway - I posted some thoughts on another thread so check this out.

I think the key is to go with the enthusiasm and confidence that you have acquired with the last fair. It's all a learning experience!!

I felt that having small smelly samples in a vairety of soap dishes was helpful for my situation. In some cases when people could not decide between two fragrances/soap designs I encouraged them to go for both. And I gave a little discount for 2.

Hope that helps. And I'm happy to answer other specific questions you may have from what I've learned. I just got back from vacation after 2 weeks and should actually be cutting a log soap to show on this forum as I had to leave everyone in suspense as to how it turned out (including myself).

My best
Hilary
