Teach Soap

I've only made single soaps in the past and I'm interested in trying a loaf. I don't have a loaf mold though. My question is if you can use any kind of pan. Can you use a regular loaf pan that you use for bread, for example?

All the pans I own are the dark nonstick type. Does soap fall out of that easily, or is it necessary to have a mold that actually has flexibility to it (i.e., silicone?)

I would try it and see. I've only used single molds and/or silicone molds for MP.

I've used metal cookie pans for thin sheets of soap but it can be hard to get the soap out. I don't know about nonstick metal pans but I think it would be risky. Stick with plastic pans for soap making, tupperware type containers, or silicone for best results. The pan has to flex to get air under and around the soap once it's ready to unmold.

I use tupperware all the time.. the thing with metal is that it's hard to get the soap out at the end, your moulds do need to have a bit of flex and, unless your Superman, metal just isn't going to do it for you.

I also use food product containers, yogurt pots for instance... if they can go through your dishwasher, you'll be able to put M&P into them. Think of plastic bottles for your lotions etc... cut the top and bottom off them and you've got a perfect tube mould (secure 6 layers of cling film to the bottom of one end so that the soap doesn't pour through.

The silicone mould and slab moulds aren't hugely expensive and your local food store will probably carry them... experiment, experiment, experiment is the key!!
