Hi all,

I recently had a couple of bars of soap that didn't turn out quite the way I wanted them to, so I'd like to re-melt them. From what I've read though, I understand that the soap can dry out. The other thing I'm concerned about is ruining the fragrance that I already put in.

As far as fragrance goes, when you re-melt, can you assume that as long as you don't get to the FO's flashpoint then you're okay? Should I add more fragrance? (The fragrance is perfect BTW; it's the color that I didn't like).

As far as drying out, can I assume that if I keep the jar covered with Saran Wrap in the microwave that it will be okay? Or should I add anything to the soap? Should I re-melt with some fresh M&P?

And what if your soap comes out wonky more than once? Can you re-melt over and over without destroying your creation?

I have lots of things that didn't work out - those that I have re-melted and re-melted are now called my servicable soap and are usually used for experimentation things. Ideas I have that I would like to work on before using fresh base.

I would think a couple of re-melts isn't going to do much harm, if you wanted you could put in a little oil (sweet almond maybe?) to increase the moisturisation aspect. Too much will affect the lather (recommendation go from 1 tsp to 1 tbsp per 1lb).

Can you change the colour from the original? You'll probably have to go to a darker colour I guess. I find the FO holds pretty well in re-melting... if you're concerned, add a drop or two more but not too much.

HTH.

MP soap should hold up to a few re-melts just fine! Just make sure to cover in saran wrap and not to overheat it. If the soap is flaky and dry you can add a little bit of liquid glycerin but it is not necessary. A few drops of FO may need to be added as well... just depends on the fragrance and the original strength. =)
