Yesterday I got my very large BB order in and was alllll set to start soaping. Then I realized I forgot a crucial item! Oh no! I forgot my vanilla stabilizer! Now I will have to wait til June when I can place my next order to get soaping as almost ALL of my fragrances have vanilla in it and I only have 2 lbs of soap to play with until then. Now my happy happy happy has gone to sad sad sad lol

I wouldn't let lack of a vanilla stabilizer slow you down. I don't use it. It only slows down how fast things will turn color; it doesn't stop it. So if it's going to turn tan in 4-5 months anyway, I just skip the stabilizer. And I'm okay with things turning tan. For fun color options, you can always swirl or use unscented soap as a light contrast color (a "blind" swirl since you can't see the color difference until it cures). Sometimes, even if a fragrance has vanillin, it may not turn color. You'll have to test the ones you have to see (or look them up on a scent review).

I don't use it either. I am OK with the light tan I get, I try to plan accordingly.

I have some really cheap craft store soap leftover from my first soaping experience. Been trying to decide what to do with it. Do you think it would be a good fragrance color and scent tester?

Does the vanilla discolor right away and then just get darker as time goes on? Or is it pretty much a waiting game to see what happens? I want to make a loaf that will end up looking like a cake with filling in the middle and frosting on top. I want the cake part to be yellowish/tan and the filling/frosting to stay white. If I leave the scent out of the filling/frosting, they will stay the color I want. If the scent turns the "cake" part tan/brown, that's ok. I would just like to know what to expect I guess.

Depending on the % of the vanilla used in the fragrance, it can discolor as soon as one week. Vanilla scented soap tends to bleed into the next layer of soap, even though that part might start out white or unscented.

It can take days to weeks. I have a soap that I made back in Dec that didn't turn for a few months.

Well, I went ahead and made a loaf. Posting pics to the flaunt thread!

That so awesome, I am still waiting for mine! How does one know the percentage of.....vanillin??.....thats in a particular fragrance? And if using the vanilla stabilizer, how much do you use? I didn't think about this either when placing my first order.

Thanks! I ordered my fo's from BB. I see now where it says in the descriptions on the BB site if the scent contains vanilla.
