Why is it that the melt and pour bases so many more ingredients than just old fashioned cold process soap? Can cold process soap be used as melt and pour or is there something with the process that won't allow it? Thanks, just wondering : )

MP base can have just as many ingredients as cold process soaps. It just depends what ingredients you prefer for cold process soap as MP base is already pre-made. Cold process soap will never be as fluid as melt n' pour base. You can rebatch cold process soap, but it will be more the consistency of mashed potatoes.

Only MP base will become fluid again if melted. That is due to the ingredients and the process used to make it either clear or opaque.

MP contains solvents which allow the soap to be melted into a solution for pouring. Common solvents include glycerin, propylene glycol and water. Other than solvents, the ingredients can vary as much as CP formulas vary.
