Teach Soap

I was looking at the low sweat (like cold process) M&P base at Bramble Berry. Does anyone know what the difference is between it and the regular M&P bases?

I prefer the regular. The low sweat hardens up too fast for my taste. YMMV.

I have to agree with soapbuddy, it does harden up way too fast. I have found myself having to remelt it more than a time or two!

I use a double boiler method on soap base that sets too fast. takes more time but it works well though I've never used lowsweat MP from BB. I buy bulk from them. hope that helps.

I stumbled on a "trick" that may help -- if I'm doing a large M&P batch and don't want to remelt, re-color and re-fragrance I use one of those coffee mug warming plates. In a large Pyrex measuring cup (either 16 or 32 ounces), soap stays at an even 140 degrees or so. I do stir it occasionally, but it's much better than remelting which tends to make the base more brittle because of evaporation.

I'm a huge coffee fan and two different bosses, over the past 30 years, gave me one of these as a Christmas gift to keep coffee warm in the office on my desk. They've been buried in a cabinet for at least 10 years and I recently found them while looking for something else and put them to work!

It does harden up a lot faster than "regular" MP, but if you live in a humid area I highly recommend it!

The low-sweat base has less glycerin than the regular bases. Glycerin attracts moisture from the surrounding air, so less glycerin leads to less sweating, which is especially good for humid climates. I've heard some people say that the low-sweat base is a bit drying since it has less glycerin, but I didn't notice a huge difference myself.

I was having an issue with my soaps "sweating" with the glycerin dew the moment humidity hit them, even if they were wrapped. I was using the olive oil base from Brambleberry, and also the shea butter base as well. I recently tried the LCP melt and pour and I really enjoyed it. I live in Florida where it's always humid and I was having several problems with my other bases. I hope this helps you some.

I too was having the same problem and gave up. I don't have a coffee warmer, but wondering if the low temperature on a crock pot was about the same degrees.
