I am new to the soap making process and am having trouble when using my Melt and Pour Soup that it gets too soft on me while using. Is there something I can add to harden the soap. I am only using a small amount of fragrance in the soap. Thanks! :)

Can I ask which MP soap base you're using?

Some MP soapers swear by salt, some use beeswax, some use stearic acid. But just remember that MP soap will never be as hard and long lasting as commercial soap because of the high amount of glycerine in them.

I get my MP soap from our local hobby store- it is Darico 2lb blocks. I use Aloe Vera, or Shea butter, or Goats Milk soap for most of ones I have been using. Again, I am new to soap making but am enjoying it. Thanks! :D

I also used the local hobby shops m&p base when I first started and didn't really care for it. I would use a reputable supplier such as Brambleberry and buy their bases. They are so much better quality and last much longer from what I found.

Get a better base, like the one from BrambleBerry. :)

I've heard that stearic acid will harden mp bases. However, I've never tried it so I can't say it with any certainty. Ditto what everyone else said about craft store bases. Once you use a good base (like bramble Berry's) you won't want to use those store bases again.

another thing to consider would be to make sure that you keep your soap dry when not in use. as you've found, MP tends to melt faster if it stays wet.

but i agree wholly with everyone suggesting the better MP base. worlds of difference.

If your soap is not lasting long enough for you, try a new base. My go to base is always this one:

As for hardeners, I don't know that beeswax will be your friend; this is what it did to my soap base when I did experiments years ago on it:

What you can do is set your soap under a fan after you pop the soap out of the mold for 2-4 days. This helps to evaporate out any extra moisture in the melt and pour, giving it a longer lasting life in the shower. It's almost like a mini-cure time for the soap.

I hope this helps!
