Anne-Marie and Everyone -

I order from Bramble Berry often, but have slowed down because of shipping costs. I'm in NYC.

Had an unsuccessful shipping experience last week. Needed one 3-D mold (light-weight, plastic) relatively quickly. The mold cost $6 or $7. The shipping was $8.50. I contacted Bramble Berry and suggested USPS First Class mail in a padded envelope. I had even priced the shipping myself based on 10 ounces (which I'm sure is more than the mold weighs) - $2.75 and an additional $ 0.19 for delivery confirmation. Even Priority Mail would have been under $6.00 and Bramble Berry told me it would be $8.40. And, that was all they were prepared to do.

I cancelled the order. Customer service person was very sweet, but felt like had no authority to help me figure this out. I told her it was time for Anne-Marie to open an East Coast warehouse and that I would help her get it up and running.

I thought I should follow-up my original post here to tell everyone that I did finally make my order with Brambleberry, and they were willing to work with me and use the USPS' flat-rate boxes to lower the shipping cost of my order --- I really appreciated them doing that!

In this case, it did not lower my total shipping costs by as much as I would have hoped, but only because I was ordering some molds along with the melt-and-pour bases, which had to be shipped in a separate box to prevent damage to them by the heavy soap bases.

Thank you once again Anne-Marie!

I'm glad that you were able to get everything sorted out. I'd hate for you to be without Bramble Berry supplies =)

My so sorry that you weren't feeling the love from our CS rep. I tracked down who it was and did speak with them on your behalf.

The reason we do not ship molds via padded envelope is twofold. The US Post Office recommends no more than 3/4" in height for envelopes because of the machine sorting. Because of this, we have had very negative experiences shipping singular molds in envelopes. When the product does break, the Post Office will not, in our experience, pay for the product because of the "lack of packaging."

Since our goal is always to get you products to your door in one piece, that's why envelope shipping isn't the best option in our experience.

I am very glad that you were able to work something out though to get you the mold that you wanted. =)

I am so happy to hfind out that you will ship flat rate on bases, that is why I run back and forth \to the local michales to buy my soap base is that the shipping cost for the heavy soap base is so expensive. I will be calling to get a quote . Do you have any idea how many lbs will fit in a
the largest flat rate box?

Brambleberry told me the only way / cheapest way they could ship a 1lb melt and pour base (I'm a beginner, don't want to bite into more than I can chew :P) is the $8.50 fedex manner. : / *sigh*

Small flat rate box doesn't fit a 1lb block of M&P. Too flat.

What about a flat rate padded envelope?

Linda, where are you located and which base do you want? I have 75 or so lbs of SFIC base here (low sweat clear and low sweat white). Happy to send you a pound of either for what I paid for it. Can easily go in a small flat rate box if it's cut into a couple of pieces (which you would do anyway before you used it).

Asking about your location because if you're close to me (I'm in NYC), then Priority Mail may be cheaper.

Linda, just checked your profile and got your city. USPS Priority Mail would be $5.58 and Small Flat Rate is $5.00.

I also just checked www.soapgoods.com (where I buy my bases) - you can buy one pound from them and they will ship for $6.20 to your zip. That way you can have any base you want.

Happy to send a pound to you if you want.

I'm in Chicago, and I just swallowed the charges this one time. Definitely looking for alternatives in the future, though. (If I ever decide to make soap again. Which I'm hoping I will! ^-^)

Thanks for the thought though!
