Anyone add powered milk to their M&P base? I have read a few places that do it, not sure I like mixing it with water to add though. If someone has good way to use the powdered milks then I could use the low sweat base and make it GM on my own.

Hopefully, someone with lots of knowledge and experience answers this because it sounds like a good way to get nasties growing in the soap. You could add a preservative though. BB's GM base is really nice so I think I'll stick with that for now.

I've added just plain powdered milk to mp before (without the water). I didn't have any problems with visible mold, but I no longer do that because there have been a lot of other MP soapers who have had problems with mold when adding plain powdered milk.

I would not add any milk to MP soap base. It will grow nasties.

Thanks, that's kinda what I thought. Just wishful thinking because that would be easier then picking out a new base.

Sudsyfun I do also like BB GM base, but it sweats on me:(

I added powdered goats milk to a soap that I made about 6 months ago. I mixed the powder with glycerin, and mix mix mixed because it tends to be lumpy, and then added it to my base. I still have one bar from 6 months ago and it's just fine - no mold or anything like that. Since then I've used it for a few other soaps, and no problems so far. I started using this method after reading "Soapmaking the Natural Way", she has several recipes in there that use powdered goats milk, except she uses water to mix with the powder instead of glycerin. I have tried it that way too, but I found that it was harder to get the lumps of dried milk mixed in and it lead to a softer bar. I never had any problems with mold though.

Just to clarify...for milk to do anything- it needs to be saponified. I know this is old but hopefully people will read it. :)
So just buy the milk base...or come to the cp/hp dark side. :D
