Teach Soap

I am wanting to try a lemon pie soap. It calls for a pie plate to make it with. My question is should I use glass or tin.

Why not use a clear plastic plate? Glass could break and tin might discolor the soap.

I've used a Teflon coated metal pie pan before and never had any problems. But then I also made a "pie crust" to go on the sides of the pan, so the soap didn't get to stick to the sides, just the bottom, so it was easier to remove. If you're just pouring layers into a pie pan, it might be a little tricky to remove, and you might have to ruin a slice or two to do so.

I have never seen a teflon coated pie plate? So if I used a pie plate then the soap has trouble coming out?

buy a silicone pie plate. They make them I know seen in on a another website. Stay with silicone and you wont have any problems getting soap out.

Coolah, since this is M&P I don't think there needs to be much concern for the lye. What I was thinking though, is maybe line your pan with something such as plastic wrap, make sure your soap isn't too hot and then pour into your pan, because then you can just lift it all out (make sure you have good overhang) and peel the plastic off the soap?

Thats what I was thinking was maybe lining the pan but then I thought what if it melts. I think i will try a small amount first

I've done it before. Plastic wrap is supposed to withstand the heat of the microwave, so as long as your soap isn't boiling (which is shouldn't be anyway) then it should be fine. Your pan is going to be cool so that will drop the temp of the soap pretty quick.

I know I am extremely new to soap making, but the first thing that crossed my mind was using the mini pie tins. Has anyone used them as molds?
