Teach Soap

I really want to get some Essential Oils but currently we just don't have the money for more soaping supplies. I do have some McCormick Pure Peppermint Extract for cooking. Would that work for scenting MP soap? I have peppermint and lemon extracts.

Do extracts work? Or are they not good for the skin?

The only FO I have is Lilac...which smells great, but I'm want to use a different scent, and I want to start using EO's because I have sensitive skin and want to stay away from FO's.

If that's all you have I would try it, but this isn't something that I would sell. Are the xtracts oil or water soluble?

In MP, the alcohol would evaporate. Since the extract is diluted, you would most likely need a lot for just one bar of MP soap. The exception to this would be almond extract. That one is plenty strong. I still wouldn't use it in soap though IMHO. Why not just wait til you can get more supplies?

Because I'm impatient...lol. I may have to though. I'm hoarding my last 2 lbs of base and it may be a few months before we can afford more supplies.

This is an older post, but wanted to reply anyways. I used cooking extract last year for gift soap for two friends who are allergic to pretty much all FO's and EO's. I used almond extract. It was kinda weak if I remember, but it worked out fine since both friends couldn't do strong scents. If you want a strong scent get some FO or EO when you have the money.

Someone asked if Extracts are water or oil soluble. I do believe they are water soluble since they are mostly alcohol. Alcohol and oil don't mix. My best friend once tried to make a salve out of a tincture and it was an epic fail. It separated and the wax/oil mixture just floated on top of the tincture.
