Teach Soap

I have been making CP soap since Feb of this year. So far I have made 2 attempts at rebatching, last night being my final attempt. I want to know what I am doing wrong. I had 42.2 oz of grates lye soap and used 21.1 oz of water in a crock pot set to low. I pour just enough water to make it wet and then I stirred to fully incorporate. I left it alone for an hour and then went back to stir. Left alone for an hour and stirred. Left alone for an hour and found that it was a runny oatmeal consistancy. I added .68 oz of Juniper Breeze (Bramble Berry) stirred to incorporate and then poured into my mold. I placed it into the freezer for an hour and took out. This morning I woke up to find an ounce of liquid had leaked out and that the center and bottom were gooey. I don't know what else to do. Please help.

That's a lot of water. Depending how old the original soap was, if it was fresh, you don't need any extra water at all. If it was an older soap, you want just enough water to moisten the shreds. Rebatched soap will never be as fluid as the original cold process soap. It will be more like the consistency of mashed potatoes or apple sauce. If it's like oatmeal, that means it's too runny and will shrink into strange shapes as it dries out.

I would leave it be for now and check it again in about a week.

Eesh, yeah that is too much water. I usually just add enough (or aloe vera liquid or a bit of avocado oil) to the bottom of my crock pot to keep it from scorching, a tablespoon or two. A-M has some great rebatch tutorials at Soap Queen blog, check em out! Don't give up on rebatching!

Thank you so much. I got the advise from Ask.com from a lady who said she had been soaping for over 10 years. I, too, thought that was too much water but I am a novice. The soap was 2 weeks old. I didn't rebatch the entire batch in case I was wrong. And boy was I!! The soap has dried to a used sponge consistancy. What I will do is take the rest and grate it but only add 1 tsp of water to the crock pot. I won't add any fragrance and see how that comes out. Thank you so much for your advice!!

Good luck on the rest of the rebatch. I take soaping info I find on the net with a grain of salt.
