Teach Soap

Hi Everyone,

I bought the loofah slices which I want to put in individual round molds.

My question is do I soak the loofah slices in hot water first; squeeze them & then pour the soap over them?

The slices have already been cleaned.

It depends on whether your loofah is the compressed type or not. If they aren't compressed, you can use them as is.

I don't know if you've read the previous post on loofah soap but there's a link to the Soap Queen making loofah soap. She makes the soap using shredded loofah and whole loofah sponges. The whole loofah she cut up and placed in individual molds.

Oh! Thank you. I did read the previous post. I did look at the Soap Queen video and just assumed it was just about using the shredded loofah. I will watch it now.

I don't know if the loofah I bought is compressed or not. It did not say compressed on it.

Well if its big its not compressed if its thin then its compressed. got that much from soap queen M&P Loofah soap. I still want it. LOL

Yup, if it's flat or real thin, it's compressed. Just follow the Soap Queen's instructions on reconstituting them. Just make sure that they are completely dry before use so that you don't introduce water and possibly bacteria or mold to your soap.

Melissa, have you checked out any Walmart or Kmarts near you? I saw some whole loofah sponges and some flat loofah (facial) pads at both stores the last time I went. I bought some of the loofah pads for less than a dollar for a pack of 12 although they were pretty thin even after I wet them. I use them as is with soap.

I love making loofah soap, but the only time i soak them in hot water is if they are too big for my mould, then i squish them in and let them dry and then i can soap!

Yes, if you watched the video the Soap Queen says that you can use them as is unless you receive the loofah compressed or if you want to shape them to fit the mold you plan on using or even into a flower shape, then you would soak them in hot water to reconstitute or shape the loofah and/or cut them down to size.
