Teach Soap

Hey I do M&P for now and I want to add fruit to my soap like bananas. Is there a way you can add them with "citric acid" and grapefruit seed extract fully pureed to add the benefits of a real banana to the soap? I'm worried about molding, but I planned on making the soap fresh and not letting it sit on my shelves long, kinda like a "made to order' basis. OR should I just by like banana extract and put it in the soap instead?

Fruit in mp will mold, citric acid only keeps fruit from molding in food.

There are some fruit butters out there. I don't know that I've ever seen banana in butter form though.

Grapefruit seed extract is not a preservative; it's an anti-oxidant. It won't prevent from your soap going moldy. The banana will also turn soap brown & won't add any scent.

I have herd of pureed fruit being added to M&P and BENZOIN POWDER being used to preserve. i can post the book with the recipes if you like?

What about that dry banana powder maybe that would work I am not sure if you need a preservative.

Benzoin Powder - This additive has historically been used as a fixative in soap for fragrance and fresh fruits (though whether it works is open to some heated debate). It is a known sensitizer and you should use this product sparingly in your products.

This is the desciption of the product sold at Brambleberry,it is also a topic of debate among soapers ,but to each his own and as the question was asked it is an option that SOME people choose to use when adding fresh fruit to soap.

why not use a Bananna FO instead. with a yellow mica or something? I love how banannas smell but hate the taste.
